Sean Miller might be the very best at recruiting transfers in the Nation. For every program that recruits the “one and done” freshman, having some transfer players can be imperative to a rebuilding season. They’re older, experienced, and can have an immediate impact. Former Tucson stars that transferred to Arizona under Miller include Kadeem Allen, TJ McConnell, and Mark Lyons. Freshman can play lights out during the regular season in college and can carry a team. However, March Madness is a different animal. The moment adversity hits when you are very far from home, having upperclassmen can really calm things down. If you don’t have a good mix of veteran leadership you can be a one and done in the Tourney very quickly.

This season he took it up another notch by grabbing UC Irvine guard Max Hazzard who was the ’18-’19 Big West Tournament MVP and All-Big West. Hazzard isn’t alone. They also have Cornell transfer Stone Gettings who can play inside and out and will give you max effort every play. Gettings might be the first-ever Arizona basketball player to win valedictorian he’s that smart. Plus, Gettings transferred last year so he was able to practice for half a season with Miller. He also has a 39 point performance at Cornell. The most impressive transfer so far though as been Jemarl Baker who came from Kentucky and John Calipari. Baker didn’t know if he was able to play right away until right before the season began. He’s been better than advertised. He has 22 assists to 2 turnovers in 6 games this year.

Two of Arizona’s starters are former transfers as well. Chase Jeter transferred from Duke and Dylan Smith transferred from UNC-Nashville. Smith is Miller’s best on-ball defender and Chase Jeter is a smart player who plays good defense around the basket. They also have a former McDonald’s All-American Jordan Brown who transferred from Nevada that is sitting out this year but will be ready to go next year. The experience he’ll get in practice every day is invaluable going against Gettings, Ira Lee, and Zeke every day will keep him game-ready. This transfer class will certainly be there for Nico, Green, and Zeke when the times get tough.
