A Pandemic, murderous bees, Social Injustice, and saying goodbye to Kobe and The Black Panther, Chadwick Boseman, 2020 has been a year we’d like to erase from our memories. On Sunday it got worse for the 49ers, Giants, and Panthers. The Stadium of Death, otherwise known as Metlife Stadium took down Solomon Thomas and Nick Bosa for the season, Jimmy G for over a month and Raheem Mostert and Jerrick McKinnon for at least a week.
Metlife stadium became the field of doom in week 2. The 49ers had a formidable defensive front but will now be leaning on inexperienced players. A team that had Super Bowl aspirations is now thinking, Why us? It wasn’t just the 49ers that took major blows. Two of the top 5 RBs in the NFL are down with Saquon Barkley tearing his ACL and Christian McCaffery with an ankle injury. Multiple WRs went down to injury. The biggest names are Davonte Adams, Courtland Sutton, and Julio Jones. But, perhaps the craziest injury of the weekend came after Sunday. The Chargers team Doctor punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung attempting to give him a pain-killing medication. 2020 am I right? We can’t make this stuff up.
There is major contrast with being in great physical shape and being in football shape or game shape. With the prolonged “Quarantine Offseason” the NFL decided to bypass the Preseason. Some have publicly spoken out against Preseason in the past but it’s flat-out important. Look at the injuries starting to pile up after two weeks. Players can’t simulate a game by being in the gym or running routes on the field. Game speed is different from training speed. Aside from injuries we’d never get to see players like Austin Ekeler go from undrafted rookie to a multi-million dollar man or Phillip Lindsay making the pro-bowl as an undrafted rookie, the 1st undrafted rookie to ever do that.

Great post! All these injuries are so sad. I wish the NFL would have added in more training time and pushed the season back.
