NFL Week 3: 49ers Face Their Toughest Foe of the Year; Metlife Stadium and Justin Herbert Makes His 2nd Career Start Due to Unfortunate Events

The remaining healthy players on the 49ers are probably terrified to take the field this Sunday knowing what happened last week. They won the battle against the Jets week 2 but endured great losses in the process. Losing very key pieces while knocking the Jets around on the scoreboard. 49ers defensive end Arik Armstead called Metlife field ‘trash’ after the game last week. This week they stay in Jersey to face the Barkley-less Giants.

The G-Men also took a major blow to the gut with the loss of Saquon and Sterling Shepard. Poor Danny Dimes. His numbers with and without Saquon Barkley are very different. Daniel Jones with Barkley throws for about 245 yards per game, 2 TDs/game, and a 95 passer rating. Without Barkley, Jones throws for 189 yards/game, 1 TD/game, and a 59 passer rating. They just signed Devonta Freeman off the street to hopefully take some pressure off of Jones but who knows how ‘Game Ready’ he is. The former Falcons RB had some solid years in Atlanta including a Super Bowl Appearance against Tom Brady and the Pats. I’m sure Devonta doesn’t want to talk about that Super Bowl.

Taking it out to the West Coast, it’s very ironic that a day after Anthony Lynn said the Chargers had a better chance of winning right now with Tyrod. To the dismay of Chargers fans Anthony Lynn is just trying to protect their young QB by letting him learn the game from the sidelines before leading this loaded roster. A move Lynn endorsed from the start of the season. Unfortunately, the Chargers team Dr. seemed to disagree with Coach Lynn and punctured Tyrod Taylor’s lung while attempting to give him a pain-killing injection. Justin Herbert has already tied Tyrod Taylor in 300 yard passing games. Herbert did it in his first start and Taylor only has 1 in 47 career starts. Herbert made history in his first career start against the defending Super Bowl Champions. He became the first rookie QB to have a rushing and passing touchdown in the 1st half of his 1st start. Against a very bad Panthers defense look for Justin Herbert to keep his momentum rolling. Austin Ekeler should get a big workload. The Panthers defense is miserable. They’ve given up 36 rushing TDs in the last 18 games. They’ve allowed 20+ points in 14 straight which is the longest active streak in the NFL. Herbert is going to explode like Sunshine did in Remember the Titans.
