To put things into perspective, the last time the Suns were playing postseason basketball Steve Kerr was our GM. He’s won 3 championships as a Head Coach since the Suns last made the playoffs. That team was pretty stacked, led by Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Grant Hill and Jason Richardson. With Leandro Barbosa coming off the bench? The Brazilian Blur went on to get his championship with Steve Kerr in Golden State. There are currently 3 former members of this team playing in the playoffs this year. Steve Nash is continuing his legacy from the Coach’s seat in Brooklyn this year.
The Last Time the Suns Made the Playoffs…
Devin Booker was 13 years old and Deandre Ayton was 11.
Robin Lopez (Wizards), Goran Dragic (Heat), and Jared Dudley (Lakers) were on that Suns team and are currently in this years playoffs. Goran Dragic (scored 20+ points off the bench today for the Heat), Leandro Barbosa, and Channing Frye came off the bench in 2010.
Kobe Bryant became the youngest player to reach 25K career points, passing Wilt Chamberlain. (31 years old and 151 days)
Sam Bradford was the No. 1 Overall Pick by the St. Louis Rams
Emmitt Smith, Jerry Rice, and John Randle get inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

San Francisco Giants Win the World Series and Edgar Renteria was the World Series MVP.
Cam Newton Wins the Heisman Trophy.

96th Rose Bowl- Terrell Pryor leads Ohio State past LeGarrette Blount and the Oregon Ducks.
Tim Tebow leads Florida past Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl.
Alabama beats Texas in the BCS National Championship Game. Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson combine for 225 yards and 4 TDs. Earl Thomas was Texas’s stud that year.

Peyton Manning beat Marc Sanchez in the AFC Championship Game.
Drew Brees outduels Brett Favre in the NFC Championship Game in OT. (The same year the Saints were handing out Bounties to hurt other players).

Duke beats Gordon Heyward and Brad Stevens in the National Championship Game.

Bryce Harper was the No. 1 Overall pick in the MLB Draft at 17 years old.

The Suns lost to the Lakers in the Conference finals in 6 games. The Lakers beat the Celtics in 7 games. Kobe Bryant was the Finals MVP. It’s only fitting the Suns end their 10 year playoff drought against the rival Lakers. The last team the Suns played in the playoffs is the first team they play this year. The Lakers are just the 1st team in the Suns way.

Prince William and Kate Middleton announce engagement.

Earthquake in Haiti Rocks the World killing about 160,000 people.
Chile Mining Accident- 33 Miners were rescued after being trapped for a record 69 days underground.
Some of these events seem like a lifetime ago for Suns fans who are used to winning basketball. The Nash days and before that the KJ, Dan Majerle, and Chuck days in the 90’s. The Suns probably would have preferred another first round matchup other than the Lakers, but, if you want to be the best you have to beat the best and that is the defending Champion LA Lakers.
Loved reading all the sports info from 2010 and the world events too. It’s crazy remembering the Swine flu and the earthquake in Haiti and the miners that were caught. It’s interesting how the Suns need to get past the Lakers again!
