A battle of number 1 overall picks when Anthony Davis and Lebron come to Phoenix. It’s going to be an all-out battle that CP3 and Book will be ready for. However, all eyes will be on the matchup of former top picks. We know what AD can do on a nightly basis but Deandre Ayton is yet to scratch the surface of his potential and the expectations that go with being that pick. A lot of people in the Valley wanted the Suns to draft Luka Doncic instead of Ayton. If Ayton can hold his own defensively against the Lakers front court the critics will be a little more silent.
The Suns got a tough draw having to face the defending champion Lakers but the good thing they’re banged up and the Suns are well-rested with zero major injuries. The West is stacked with talent so why not start with the toughest test. Normally when you get the 2nd seed you are favored, however, the Lakers are the best 7 seed in the history of the league. So that might be an advantage for the Suns. The pressure is all on the Lakers because of how they’re favored.
The Suns lack of depth behind Deandre Ayton is scary but there is a reason Monty’s Williams peers voted him coach of the year! He’ll have this defense ready to roll with a beaten up Lakers team. Look for Chris Paul to get Ayton the ball early on, “Let the big dog eat!”
