NFL: 2018 Bolts Bills Encore

The Bills are about to unleash No. 7 overall pick, QB from Wyoming Josh Allen. I doubt the Chargers are the least bit intimidated by the rookie QB. However, it is never easy for a west coast team to travel across the country to play a morning game. That will be the only disadvantage for the Chargers because the Bills might be the worst team in football this year after giving up 47 points week 1 against the Ravens. Luckily for Allen, he won’t be facing the Joey Bosa, an absolute nightmare for QB’s because his motor is never-ending. He’ll find a way to get a hit on the QB. He is missing his second straight week with a bone bruise in his foot and he is still day-to-day.

Chargers Week 2There are two former Bills employees that are huge pieces for the Chargers, and I am not talking about Cardale Jones. Head coach Anthony Lynn was a coach for two seasons with the Bills as the RB coach and then the offensive coordinator. Lynn was the interim head coach for 1 game when Rex Ryan was fired in Buffalo. Chargers GM Tom Telesco is from Buffalo. He was a summer intern for the Bills from ’91-’94 as an eager young man. Lynn and Telesco took care of business last year beating the Bills 54-24 and intercepted Nathan Peterman 5 times. Chargers defense have to be upset that they made a coaching change in Buffalo after week 1 losing 47-3. Peterman was 5 for 18 and threw 2 INT before Allen took over. After that whooping the coaches decided to announce that Josh Allen would be starting week 2. The thought of Peterman throwing 5 INT to the Chargers in 2017 had to have played a factor in the move.

This game will also feature the No. 16 and 17 overall players in the 2018 draft with Safety Derwin James from FSU and LB Tremaine Edmunds from Virginia Tech. Both of these players played EVERY snap on defense in week 1. Edmunds had 7 tackles a forced fumble and a sack. While James had the only chargers sack and 3 tackles. Both of these standout defensive players are projected to be pro-bowl players from year 1. Derwin James resembles the late great Sean Taylor at safety. A physical specimen standing at 6’2 215 lbs. He’s fast enough to run with receivers, big enough to defend Tight Ends like Gronk, and can also play LB because of his size. He will be able neutralize mismatches. Tremaine Edmunds has unique size and speed for a LB. His only knock was his instincts but he makes up for that with crazy athleticism.

“Good luck with your player comp on this one. They don’t come like him. I don’t think there has ever been a linebacker that has had his size and speed. You’re better off comparing him with a basketball player.” — NFC regional scout about Edmunds

Chargers will have the all-around advantage in this one. Allen making his first start while Rivers is making his 193rd start. The Chargers did a great job in week 1 containing the 2017 rushing leader to less than 60 yards rushing, something the Bolts struggled with last season. They’ll have to contain Lesean McCoy, who struggled week 1. Now that Lesean knows he won’t be facing a suspension from the league stemming from a domestic violence allegation. Look for him to be more of a factor this week having that in his rear view. Chargers need to be focused on starting the game fast. They don’t want to fall into the lethargic trap of travelling to the East coast. Buffalo is a long way from beautiful Southern California. If they handle that, the Chargers should walk away with this one.
